Our Dear Friends and Family,
We approach this Christmas season much the same way we approached the final days before our wedding, experiencing things for the last time not with sadness, but with expectation. God willing, this will be our last Christmas without our little girl to share it with, and even as we long to hold her in our arms and feel her warm fingers wrap around our own, the solitude of this Advent gives us a chance to reflect on the end of one season in our lives, the beginning of a new.
There is poignancy in holding an infant in your arms this time of year. We look at Yoselin’s newest pictures and imagine, from fifteen hundred miles, tracing our fingers along the rim of her face, learning our daughter from what little we can see; the dawning lucidity in her eyes, her lambent gaze following some object behind the camera, the disorganized sentience we imagine in her voice. Even after being reminded year after year, it is still hard to imagine Christ in this state. We have learned in the last few years, sometimes against our will, more and more about the interaction between God’s sovereignty and His grace, and those thoughts can be lofty. Christmas serves to renew our wonder, bring our heads down from the sky, remind us of the simplicity of the Gospel.
As we celebrate the birth of Christ this year, we would like to invite you and your family to our Christmas Open House on Saturday, December 15. We are doing things differently this year than we have in the past. Instead of an evening party of much noise and energy, we are having an all day affair open to our friends of all ages. Bring your children and have a good time with people you know and maybe some you don’t. Drop in any time that works for you between noon and midnight. Stay as long or as little as you want. You are welcome to bring a dessert or snack if you would like, only please read that as an invitation and not a request. There is always more than we need.
Christmas is upon us, and it seems to always come before we’re ready. I suppose there’s something ironic in the birth of Christ sneaking up on us every year.

so if we drop in just before midnight, how long do we get to stay? :)
as long as you want! ...if you'rye comfortable sleeping on hardwood floors, we'll give you a blanket. ;P
a few times we had over nighters. several people stayed overnight at the cabin, sleeping warm by the fireplace on airmattresses, and couches.
we'd seriously let people spend the night, but they'd have to bring their own bed, cause the futon is down, as well as the spare bed (was in yosi's room) and our air mattress leaks! we have room for one guest who doesn't mind the couch or an addt. guest small enough to sleep comfortably on a chair-an-a-half. :}
Even if we can't come, I love the beauty of the words on your invitation.
I have Yosi's picture as my computer background. It's the one where she has her head sort of turned and looks like she is shyly smiling. I "tiled" it so it appears about 50 times....she's gorgeous!
we're praying it won't be long before you receive the call to come take her home!
