y's special day

um, wow... it's been nearly a month since my last post! clearly, we've been busy.

thursday yosi turned 1 year old! can you believe it? i'm still not sure i do.

today we had some family over to celebrate with us. she was a class act. david remarked later at how surprising it is that most babies seem to know exactly what we expect when we place an iced confection in front of them. yosi was one of those. we had to hold her back thru the candle part- completely baffling and pointless from her perspective. she was happy to oblige everyone with her mess-making skills. afterwards she was escorted directly to the bathtub, sprayed and bathed. gladly, she found this equally amusing to mess-making.

lately, after yosi's in bed, we often find ourselves watching recap video of the olympic games online. david's favorite sport is soccer (a minature, bubble-gum pink soccer ball was one of yosi's birthday gifts) and he has been devotedly trying to develop yoselin's interest in the sport. he has been fairly successful thus far- she is endlessly entertained by rolling the ball back and forth or by kicking it, with our help. my favorite sports to watch are gymnastics and synchronized swimming, perhaps b/c my potential for skill in either of these arenas (or really ANY olympic arena for that matter) is completely NIL. i am easily wowed by the combination of physical grace, strength and endurance combined.

that said, i'll be wrapping this up so that we can watch the final women's soccer match of the olympics, played by USA and Brazil. We already know who won, but we'll be able to be more attentive to their mad "skilz" with this knowledge in mind. It will be even more fun watching it in super-size, projected on a sheet stretched between the living room and dining room.
