mama, this one's for you. early this morning, while i slept, it began to snow- for REAL. i did not realize that the earth had finally gotten dressed in her best, until i was up and dressed myself. david and i were thrilled. we were up early to drive to columbus and see matt and annette dedicate meleah to the Lord. we whistled and sang christmas songs for the first 45 min of the drive that ended up taking us three hours. even if we were only moving at 20-45 mph, it was exhilarating, just being out in the ELEMENTS, so we poked on. little green (verdelita) may not look too impressive, but she's agile in the snow. we saw a jeep slide off the road, and, of course, hop right back on, in four-wheel drive, but doesn't it say something that we never slid off in the first place?
later, after we arrived home, we took a walk, leaving our foot prints in untouched snow piled up to three inches in some places. (can you believe it? THREE INCHES! *note tinge of sarcasm- grin*). the slight breeze chilled my face, but i was cozy-warm in two pair of socks, my new ski coat and gloves. we returned home feeling pleased and refreshed.
in more intellectual fare: i finally finished a book i've been working through for about a month- The Irrational Season, by Madeliene L'Engle. When I have more time, I'd like to write about my thoughts on it. In short, i usually liked it, i learned alot in it. A couple nights ago i picked up a book david had loaned to a friend and got drawn into it like a moth to flame. I'm already 3/4 the way through. It's an intriguing and compelling read, but very sad. The story of a young man, named Chris McCandless that died, alone, on an Alaskan adventure. The title is Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer. these books are taking me a little beyond my comfort, and probing me to ask myself from a fresh perspective, how i would look, or who i would be, if i could fully live what i believe. the next book on the list is the recently aquired Secret Thoughts of an Adoptive Mother, but David's got it right now....
I'm WAY overdue for bed. Tomorrow/today is going to be a LONG day.
