Today's weather was gorgeous. Raking leaves, all three and half hours of it [edit 11/4: recalculation revealed it was actually 2 1/2 hrs (i've never claimed to be good @ math) but it felt like 3 1/2], was pretty fun. It made taking an unplanned day off feel pretty worthwhile, even if it did wipe me out. Yosi enjoyed "helping" with all variety of leaf jumping, and Gandalf did a pretty good job serving as part-time distraction. Credit certainly should go the the "really big" sucker- a Tootsie pop- that kept her teeth soaked in a sugar bath for a good 45 minutes. She was elated to finally discover the chocolaty center. Yay for Halloween candy! I raked enough leaves to fill one and half parking spots. Hoo-yeah!
I'm also glad to have this extra day off because we had a super-busy (tho fun) weekend:
Saturday David and I enjoyed a date. We stopped at an antique market we'd been by often but never visited. David was stoked that they bought a few books he brought along, and I was tickled to find a Campbell's bobble-head doll with a darling latina-look (brown skin, round cheeks, and dark eyes). So I'm not typically the bobble-head type... but it was the perfect find for my uncommitted Campbell's collection. We then went to see the long-awaited movie "Where the Wild Things Are". I wasn't wild about it, but as I'm fond of saying (say together now): 'the book is always better than the movie!"; but I knew that going in, so I wasn't dreadfully disappointed or anything.
Sunday we had a crazy-fun time with the Vanarnhems. Yosi and Izzy had a great time running around the indoor playgym. They hit the jackpot a few times between them @ the coin games and got to pick out lots of prizes. David and I felt like big kids because I'm pretty sure we had as much fun as they did- we don't get out much these days... We were all pretty done for by the time we got home.
Heads-up x2:
- November is National Adoption Month. Have questions about adoption? Fire away. I don't know all the answers, but I know a few good resources. Also, a great time to think about how we can serve "the fatherless and the widow". I really need to do better a doing more than just thinking.
- I'm having a Book party! The Home Show will be @ my house (email me, if you don't know where that is) on December 7th @7p. Kids are welcome (these are kids books)! I'm really excited about the selection of children's books in Spanish- great for Yosi AND D&I, who are certainly in the beginner category. Below is the official invitation for online shopping:
Usborne Books - the books kids love to read!

Christmas is coming... Books make great gifts!
Everyone is welcome, so invite a friend. It's a rewarding experience when a child opens a book and discovers the magic of reading.
