it is the pleasure to the real lover of nature to give winter all the glory he can, for summer will make its own way and speak its own praises. --Dorothy Wordsworth, Journals of Dorothy Wordsworth.
last night, after watching ALLEGRIA, a dvd of a Cirque du Soliel performance, we were wide awake, in spite of the late hour. so we bundled up and headed out for a walk. our way was lit by the glow of snow reflecting the street lights, and the wind occasionally pecked our face with minute snowflakes, but we were alone except a snowplow or two.
we galavanted around broadway, taking pictures, climbing snow mountains and leaving footprints in untouched snow, for about 45 min before heading back inside. a lovely snowNite.
Snow makes us giddy as schoolchildren, especially when it's a snowDAY! we slept in this morning and woke with the expected phone call telling D he wouldn't need to be at work till noon. a little while later, danny called and asked if we could drive him out to the church to pick up some things. we lazed in bed a while longer then got dressed and headed outside to dig the vehicles out of the snow, since we both planned on working later in the day. the tracker was uncovered first, so we used it to tow out the car AND the neighbor's explorer (they were quite impressed, considering the size difference!). then we headed off to pick up danny. the church parking lot was drifted here and there, but passable. we did a few donuts and charged through some drifts. after dropping danny off, we came home, where david listened to a message saying that the bank was now CLOSED for the day.
his glee was unbridled- he raced outside and threw himself in the snow, and then threw me in too. yay! *eye's rolling* *grin* we decided to head over to the park and sled on Memorial Hill, but the snow was too deep and powdery. Instead, we drove around on unplowed side-streets and stopped at the homes of a few friends, to wish them a happy snowDAY. we stopped at eikenberry's and bought snacks and pop for making snow-slushies. on the way home we visited the car wash, to take a picture of the biggest icicle in town!
we spent the afternoon gulping down enormous slushies and playing Museum Caper (a version of CLUE), and romanitcizing about how much more fun this will be when we can share this with our kids...

Your snowday sounds delightful! There's just something about knowing you don't have to get up the next day because of snow that just changes one's whole outlook and makes staying up late almost *magical* I'm so glad you were able to enjoy the snow thoroughly and did not spend your time grumbling. Have some snow cream for Papa and I, please!
You guys are so cute! It was bad down here but as we all know, the jail never closes so I have worked every day, including the morning after about an inch of ice. Oh welll...sigh!
after being dragged outside not once or twice, but THREE times during the week by the munchkins, i came to a realization: i need some boots. :-) i realized this after Rach had talked me into climbing up a "snow mountain", which held up beautifully under her 35 lbs. I, on the other hand, found myself up to my armpits in snow.
my goal for the winter is to take the kids sledding on memorial hill - can't wait!
hey! i blogged!
