these pictures are what i love about summer...
family and being outdoors.
my dad's brother(roger), sister (kay) and her grandsons (wesley and dominic), came to visit for the weekend because of a family reunion.
friday night we went fishing and picnicking at a nearby lake. the weather was mild and we had a premium view of the sunset from the shore. we galavanted around in fishing boats under the stars. one of us, david, even caught a fish.
sunday, at the reunion, after filling our bellies with delicious homemade food, including ice cream, we were lured to the creek. wes and dominic came back to show off their crawdad and minnows caught in a plastic cup. next thing y'know david and derek were swinging from a rope to into the creek, swimming in their clothes (or some of them). after a short break for refreshment and to pick-up my camera, we were off on a hike to discover the nearby falls. on the trek there, a few children scrambled barefoot across the rubble of rocks by the creek. everyone's shoes came off and pants rolled up once we arrived. cooling off swimming or wading, catching crawdad's and a baby snapping turtle, were the mission accomplished. the old folks enjoyed the air-conditioning and reminincing, but there are memories yet to be made when you are young. i hope to always be young at heart. i have trouble being civilized, after summer days like this. it makes me want to shout- "go out and get dirty!" God certainly did not make the earth to be merely observed, but to be experienced and discovered, by each human being. though it is too lofty for me to understand, i am convinced that, as He said, He has made Himself known in His creation (Ro. 1:23). However awe-inspiring it is, I am humbled and grateful that His Word is available to me so that I need not wonder in foolishness. What a huge and important responsibility to bring the light of Christ to people who are incomplete without that knowledge.
May the righteousness imparted to me by Christ's work on the cross make me "flourish like the palm tree, grow like the cedar... be full of sap and very green, to declare that the LORD is upright; He is my rock and there is no unrighteousness in Him." (Ps 92:12-15)
well- that is a likely example of my thoughts being a wandering brook... but "it is good to give thanks to the LORD..." (Ps. 92:1).
enjoy your summer!
